Home Alone
It is very easy to let our guard down at home. So we should always ask for identification from tradespeople, or people calling to collect
money for a charity. Ask to see their trading licence.
ID cards are very easy to make – so be extra careful about reading them
Those of us who live in a gated community should not ‘buzz’ people in who are looking for someone else.
When working in the garden, out of sight of our doors, we should ensure that they
are locked.
Never put our title, or first name in the phone book, or on a doorplate. Consider having an ex-directory number
Do not leave keys in obvious hiding places (e.g. under the door mat, flowerpot,
or near our front door). Thieves know all of the standard practice hiding places
Fit a telephone extension upstairs or by the bed.
