Recycling
![]() |
In the UK -
75% of homes have at least one printer.
31 million printer cartridges are sent to landfill sites each year.
There they’ll take hundreds of years to biodegrade.
90 million old mobile phones lie unused at home / in offices.
Some makes have pretty nasty substances in them.
Worldwide the comparable figures are quite shamefully staggering.
So what can we / what should we do?
Recycle them of course.
And how?
Recycling companies will happily take the above off your hands, then you have a wide choice. Some state that charities benefit from their largesse. In some cartridge packs are return envelopes for doing so. In some instances you are induced by the chance of possibly winning something.
We seek them too, to keep out of landfill sites, and to gain us some much needed funds.
We can recycle -
• HP, Canon, Dell and Lexmark original printer cartridges
• Any old mobile phone.
Please wrap the printer cartridges – say in the wrapping of the newly installed one – as they may well be un-usable again if the head is damaged.
We have asked each street co-ordinator to be the initial collection point and make their own arrangements with their watch members. The items are then passed to the area Co-ordinator who will arrange to get them to the Steering Group.
So, even if you’re not a NHW member but still want to participate in this venture, then please contact us at neighbourhoodwatch@spelthorne.gov.uk.
